There have been many reports warning of the negative effects of waste thrown by humans into the oceans and seas on the environment and marine organisms. Human waste thrown into the sea is not limited to plastic and non-degradable materials, but may be expensive materials, according to what the Coast Guard in the United States of America notes. It has become clear to American sailors that living creatures can sometimes fall into the trap of cans of narcotic substances that smugglers throw overboard to exonerate themselves when they are raided by anti-drug authorities. Coast Guard authorities in the United States published photos of an operation that took place on December 19 to rescue a sea turtle stuck in tangled ropes that connected packages of narcotic substances floating in the middle of the sea. After examination, it became clear that the floating amounts of cocaine weighed 800 kilograms, and their value was estimated at approximately 45 million euros (53 US dollars). The Coast Guard crew cut the ropes that entangled the turtle's limbs, and as soon as it was untied, it returned freely to the sea. On the other hand, 24 drug smugglers were arrested during this campaign.
