Media outlets confirmed that hundreds of dolphins were found dead this year on French beaches. Between January and April of this year, 700 small whales were found, most of them dolphins. The largest number of dolphins are found on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. These dolphins were killed accidentally and accidentally by fishing boat equipment, according to the Pelages Observatory for the Protection of Marine Mammals and Birds in the French city of La Rochelle. More than 70 percent of the 600 dolphins that were stranded in 2018 suffered accidental wounds and injuries while passing near fishing nets. Scientists have indicated that the number of dolphins that die in the sea and decompose in its depths may reach 4,000 dolphins. According to Helen Peltier, who works at the Pelages Observatory for the Protection of Sea Mammals and Birds, the number of dolphins killed as a result of accidental injuries has doubled in the years 2016, 2017 and 2018, as three-quarters of these animals were injured by fishing equipment. Observatory experts confirmed the presence of traces of fishing nets on the bodies and fins of dolphins, in addition to amputated organs and some evidence that clearly indicates that these fish were suffocated in fishing gear. The problem with dolphins is that they remain trapped mainly by fishing vessels equipped with trawl nets at sea. These wide nets are capable of eliminating dolphin fish, as they can be spread over large distances. In France, there are more than 6,000 fishing boats. Therefore, the best solution to reduce the elimination of dolphins is the use of acoustic repellents that are attached to the nets and emit a sound, which are mainly used to prevent dolphins and porpoises from approaching nets and fishing vessels.
