A young white whale was found dead on an Italian beach on Thursday, May 23. This sperm whale, probably seven years old, was stranded on a beach near Milazzo and, according to Greenpeace, was the third animal found dead on a Sicilian beach. Researchers at the Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Food (BCA) at the University of Padova performed an autopsy on the animal, but ruled out the possibility of hunting gear causing its death while viral diseases remain a possibility. The other two whales were found dead near Palermo, one of them with plastic materials in its stomach.
