As the sun approaches sunset, dining tables and furniture are decorated on the side of the road in Karachi, the largest city in Pakistan, in preparation to receive fasting people from poor families and passers-by to eat breakfast in the blessed month of Ramadan for free. Philanthropists who organize these tables say that about two thousand people, most of them from needy families, come every day to eat iftar meals at sunset during Ramadan. They explain that many of those who break their fast at these tables prefer to get free breakfast meals on the side of the road due to the high cost of food during the month of Ramadan or because they cannot return to their homes at breakfast time, and therefore they try as much as possible to eat breakfast with a group to feel as if they are at home. Pakistan is a country whose population is predominantly Muslim, representing more than 90 percent of its total population, which is estimated at about 208 million people.
