00:00:57

Video prices: 5 SAR weekly

Cattle raising has an important place in the Libyan countryside. In Misrata, northwest of the country, an exhibition for these livestock, specifically goats and sheep, was held on the 17th and 18th of March. This exhibition was attended by three hundred heads of cattle owned by one hundred and fifty breeders. According to the organizers, the process of selecting the most beautiful animal among them depends on size, shape, hugeness, and of course, beauty. The breed to which it belongs is taken into consideration. The owners of the winning animals received a cup and a medal. Yahya Al-Naas, the organizer of the exhibition, says, “The breeds of these cattle are considered among the most luxurious breeds ever. Some of them belong to Libyan breeds and others have been crossed with luxurious breeds such as Al-Khartoumi, Al-Zaghawi and Al-Awda.” He added, "The price of one head ranges between 1,000 dinars and 150,000 dinars. It depends on the breed to which it belongs." For livestock breeders, this exhibition allows them to meet local breeds with foreign ones, such as the Khartoum, in order to obtain quality livestock in terms of milk production, fertility, and size. Abu Bakr Al Hataba, a livestock breeder, spoke about this: “The goal is to obtain better breeds than those found locally, while preserving, of course, the local breed.”
