The Portuguese Institute for the Conservation of Forests and Nature released the Iberian lynx in the Guadiana Valley Natural Park in the Sarpa region. The two lynxes, the female "Odeluca" and the male, were released for the first time in the tourist hunting area of Herdade de Sobrera, a reserve that covers 20,000 hectares of forest. In the Alentejo region, 29 lynxes were released into the wild after talk of a decrease in the numbers of these animals, as the Portuguese Institute for Forest Conservation fears their extinction.
