Japanese technology giant Sony unveiled a dog-shaped consumer robot named “Aibo” on Wednesday. Aibo comes as a successor to another cup bearing the same name, which the company launched and stopped developing in 2005. It works for two hours after charging it for three hours. It is also equipped with two cameras that support facial recognition, as well as 22 mechanical actuators for movement. Users can sync the robot with their smartphones, via the “My Aibo” application, to enable them to control and play with it remotely. Sony claims that Aibo is able to interact emotionally with its owner, and be friendly during its care. The new robot moves like a real dog, and responds to voice commands, thanks to its machine learning ability to analyze the surrounding sounds and images captured by its devices.
